Meet a Woman Engineer – Ishwariya Rajamohan FRSA

From architecture to pâtisserie to leadership coaching, Ishwariya Rajamohan FRSA’s career is defined by reinvention. Now, as founder of Ishoo Rajamohan Coaching, she empowers women – especially those in the built environment – to build confidence, step into leadership, and progress with purpose.

Here’s her story

Rajamohan’s first spark of inspiration came as a teenager in Dubai. The arrival of the city’s first IKEA may not have represented pure Scandinavian design, but its clean lines and accessibility spoke to her love of form and function. At the same time, she excelled in Mechanical Drawing, a subject that reflected her natural way of seeing the world through geometry. These influences combined to draw her toward architecture, a profession where precision and creativity intersect.

Her career, however, would prove far from linear. After working in architecture, she pursued a second passion as a pastry chef – an experience that eventually opened the door to coaching. What began as support for professionals in hospitality soon evolved as more women, particularly in male-dominated fields like construction and engineering, sought her guidance on leadership. The conversations often led back to one central theme: confidence.

Coaching with impact

Ishwariya Rajamohan’s coaching practice is built on deep presence and outcome-focused conversations. Whether preparing for a speaking engagement or stepping into a coaching call, she carves out the time and space needed to bring her best self. Clients often leave not only with a clear plan forward but also with a renewed sense of confidence.

One story that stands out is when she supported an Assistant Manager in negotiating a long-overdue pay rise. The financial boost was significant, but what truly stayed with Ishwariya was her client’s reflection afterward: the change gave her and her partner the freedom to finally settle down and start a family. For Rajamohan, it was a poignant reminder that professional growth is never confined to the workplace—it has the power to reshape lives in ways that reach far beyond a career.

Overcoming challenges

Like many professionals, Rajamohan’s career has faced its share of challenges. A pivotal moment came when a manager, feeling threatened, attempted to scapegoat her after she was asked to support his projects – an experience that ultimately accelerated her move from architecture to pâtisserie. Instead of internalising the blame, she leaned on her track record of high-quality work and channelled her energy into a new direction. The resilience built during that period is now something she passes on to clients, helping them navigate their own setbacks with strength and clarity.

Cracking the code of confidence

In 2023, Rajamohan noticed a troubling trend among her clients: talented women were considering leaving their roles, frustrated by stalled progression and held back by a lack of confidence to pursue promotions. In response, she developed The Confidence Dynamic™, a framework that unpacks the mechanics of confidence and equips women with practical strategies to move forward.

Delivered through talks and workshops, the framework creates a safe space for open, honest conversations. Feedback has been consistent: by making the invisible visible, The Confidence Dynamic™ enables women to overcome barriers that once felt insurmountable.

Balancing focus and flexibility

Ishwariya’s days are carefully structured into distinct blocks – business development, coaching or speaking delivery, and the inevitable stream of admin tasks.

When coaching, the emphasis is on presence. Long walks in the woods and a deliberately spacious calendar help her stay grounded, ensuring clients receive her best energy in every session. Speaking engagements, by contrast, demand a different rhythm: time is set aside for rehearsal, with the rest of the day kept free of distractions. Intentional about conserving energy for meaningful interactions, Rajamohan creates the conditions that allow her to bring her full self to each audience.

Building diverse futures

Rajamohan is a strong advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, partnering with organisations to co-create coaching programmes that align with company goals while meeting employees where they are. Not everyone feels equally ready for progression, she explains, and coaching provides the bridge to get them there in a sustainable way.

Her advice to women seeking promotions is both practical and empowering: keep a running record of achievements and positive feedback. This simple habit not only builds confidence during moments of self-doubt but also provides concrete evidence when negotiating promotions or pay rises.

Advice for the next generation

For young women exploring careers in engineering or STEM, Rajamohan’s message is simple: start building connections early. Reaching out to professionals both inside and outside a chosen field can broaden perspectives, reveal opportunities, and ease the pressure of believing there is only one “right” path to follow.

“Your success starts with your mental game,” she says. “When you believe in yourself, the conversations about your worth get so much easier.”
