We’re representing a respected heavy civil contractor seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead complex bid pursuits across a diverse portfolio of civil construction projects. This position plays a key role in both preconstruction strategy and business growth, working closely with leadership, operations teams, and clients throughout the bidding and negotiation process.

The successful candidate will oversee full-cycle estimating efforts while mentoring junior staff and supporting the company’s long-term project pipeline.

 

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Leading estimating efforts for heavy civil construction bids from initial review through final submission
• Managing multiple estimates annually across projects of varying size and complexity
• Coordinating estimating staff, support personnel, and leadership teams throughout the proposal process
• Developing detailed cost estimates using labor, equipment, material pricing, and subcontractor input
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, and bid documents to define project scope and pricing strategy
• Preparing conceptual budgets, unit pricing, schedules, and value engineering alternatives
• Participating in pre-bid meetings, client discussions, formal presentations, and negotiations
• Supporting project turnover processes, including cost coding and budgeting setup for awarded work
• Maintaining estimating databases, bid codebooks, and historical cost information
• Assisting with change order pricing, extra work estimates, and contract support as needed
• Mentoring and developing junior estimators within the team

 

Background & Experience

• 10+ years of experience in construction estimating, cost control, or project engineering
• Minimum 5 years focused specifically within heavy civil construction
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or similar technical discipline preferred
• Experience estimating a range of contract structures including unit price, lump sum, DOT, and design-build projects
• Proven ability to manage complex proposals with minimal oversight
• Strong understanding of construction operations, productivity analysis, and bid strategy
• Comfortable working directly with clients, construction managers, and executive leadership

 

Technical Skills

Experience with the following platforms and systems is highly valued:

• HCSS Suite (HeavyBid / HeavyJob)
• Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project
• Microsoft Office applications
• Viewpoint software modules
• Salesforce CRM
• CPM scheduling and project controls tools

Strong proposal writing, presentation, and communication skills are also essential.
