We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join a dynamic team working on water and sewage treatment projects. This is an exciting opportunity to take on significant responsibility in a growing sector, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Principal Engineer, Design Managers, and Discipline Leads.

  • Develop design layouts that meet specifications, are cost-effective, and can be efficiently constructed and commissioned.

  • Produce and review design deliverables, including Specifications, Schedules, Drawings, and Calculations.

  • Collaborate with other disciplines to contribute to the development of 3D models for site and plant designs.

  • Ensure standard design practices are applied wherever possible for consistency and efficiency.

  • Deliver project design outputs on time and within budget.

  • Coordinate design efforts across multiple technical disciplines.

  • Maintain competitiveness in design practices and approaches.

  • Provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals team to aid project planning.

  • Establish strong working relationships with construction teams and supply chain representatives to enhance buildability and supply chain efficiency.

  • Follow and contribute to the continuous improvement of departmental procedures and processes.

  • Ensure effective coordination of designs with internal and external teams, ensuring the overall success of each project.

  • Maintain comprehensive records and files throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction by meeting project requirements and expectations.

  • Actively engage in a culture of customer focus, recognizing that customer satisfaction is central to achieving overall objectives.

  • Take ownership of your personal development plan and contribute to the development of junior staff members.

  • Promote a safe working environment for all staff, adhering to health and safety guidelines.

  • Minimize waste in all departmental activities and ensure that designs are environmentally conscious.

  • Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 regulations and all relevant health and safety requirements.

About the Candidate:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in engineering principles, including structures, materials, hydraulics, and environmental engineering.

  • Understanding of water and sewage treatment processes.

  • Experience in managing or mentoring staff in the design of water and sewage treatment plants.

  • Membership of a professional institution, either chartered or in the process of obtaining chartership.

  • Relevant engineering qualifications (Engineering degree or HND in a related discipline).

  • Strong ability to develop rational and cost-effective plant layouts.

  • General knowledge of water treatment aspects, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.

  • Familiarity with CDM 2015 regulations and responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of industry standards (BS, WIMES, BSRIA, etc.) and HSE regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to assimilate complex information and present technical proposals clearly and confidently.

  • Proficiency in computer software and tools.

  • Full, valid driving license.

Desirable:

  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status.

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
